Lampaert resumes stage racing in Germany

For the first time in its history, the Deutschland Tour scheduled a prologue, a short and fast 2.6km test against the clock in Weimar, the place where Germany’s first democratic constitution was signed in August 1919.

The man who surprised everybody on the opening stage of the Tour de France in July, when he stormed to victory and the iconic yellow jersey, Yves Lampaert made his first appearance in a stage race since concluding the Grande Boucle, and the Belgian from Ingelmunster – a two-time ITT National Champion – finished as Quick-Step’s highest-ranked rider in fifth, with a time of 3:01.

“I can be happy with the result of today, as I came here after a long period of rest and not so much intensity training following the conclusion of the Tour de France. Fifth in this prologue is a good result for me. I went all-out from the start, only in the corners trying to recover a bit, so I can be happy with my ride”, said Yves, who averaged 51.7km/h.
